April 6, 2025– Thank you for your interest in the EMIY National RESPECT Day Movement. Since 2016, EMIY National Respect Day and Calvin T. Mann, by resolution, were acknowledged and adopted by the State of Michigan, Wayne County, and the City of Detroit. National Respect Day is a simple solution to our very complex community problems. The purpose of EMIY National Respect Day is to take a positive stand against suicide, bullying, racism, violence, substance abuse and distracted driving. By rallying and encouraging young people to RESPECT FAMILY, our 2022 theme, we support them in defining and demonstrating respect in positive ways.
You can support this movement in the form of positive social media messages (poetry, skits, music, dance, art) service projects, random acts of kindness, sharing information, taking the pledge, and/or demonstrating respect and encouraging others. What you do and say matters! Let April 6th be your benchmark to engage respect. Start by Respecting Family!
The primary objective is to plant the seed of respect through leadership in school-aged youth and engage schools/groups across the country as a long-term prevention and intervention strategy to increase awareness and become the agent of change through encouragement and RESPECT.
This movement utilizes:
· Positive messaging that increases awareness of RESPECT
· A platform of students in leadership to take a stand against social issues of suicide, bullying, racism, violence, substance abuse and/or distracted driving
· A long-term strategy embedded for behavioral change in students and community as we grow in our understanding of respect
